About This Spot

Konoba Ankora is the kind of place where time seems to slow down, inviting you to settle in and savor the moment. Nestled in the serene village of Polače on Mljet Island, this intimate restaurant welcomes visitors with a warmth that feels both familiar and unhurried. The air hums softly with the gentle rhythm of attentive service, encouraging you to relax and truly be present.

There’s a deliberate calm to the pace here—not a rushed tourist spot, but a place where every dish is given the care it deserves. The atmosphere gently blends rustic charm with a quiet sophistication, the kind often born from deep local roots and genuine pride in the food served. Conversations linger over shared plates, and the mood is one of thoughtful enjoyment rather than hurried dining.

What stands out most is the unmistakable sense that this is a home away from home, where each plate tells a story of the Adriatic’s freshest catches and time-honored preparations. While seafood holds a beloved place on the menu, the kitchen's attention to simple, authentic flavors shines through in every bite—whether you're there for the rich, comforting fish soup or a thoughtfully crafted vegetarian option that surprises with its depth. The dishes unfold gradually, allowing you to appreciate the freshness and homemade quality that underpin the experience.

Service here does more than attend to needs: it quietly elevates the entire visit. Waitstaff approach with an easy familiarity that feels like welcoming old friends, while their knowledgeable recommendations deepen your connection to the local culinary landscape. Above all, there’s respect—respect for the ingredients, for the guests, and for the experience of shared meals in a place that truly values them.

For those with the leisure to linger and the curiosity to explore authentic Croatian island fare, Konoba Ankora offers a gentle invitation. It’s a place crafted not just for nourishment, but for savoring the quiet stories and simple pleasures that unfold when good food and thoughtful service come together in harmony.

After several dishes in Dubrovnik, we are so disappointed for the food is (and so expensive). It really amazes us how the dish is here. Everything is home-made. We took the fish soup and it is so fresh. And seabass is absolutely amazing! It’s the most authentic food we had in Croatia for now! The service is so nice and I highly recommend it

Really impressed with the food, location and service. It may be above the prices you expect on mainland Croatia but it’s also best food we’ve had in Croatia so far. As a vegetarian getting good food can be difficult somewhere with such a focus on fish, yet the spaghetti with courgette was delicious. My partner’s fish plate was also excellent as was the chocolate cake we had for dessert. All the veg is grown in their own garden. Service got a little slow towards the end of our dinner as the rest of the tables including a party of 12 were all seated at roughly the same time and there’s only one waiter, however he served us as soon as he could and with a smile! Thank you very much

Excellent restaurant ! Service and food were wonderful ! Have to reserve and serve only for diner. They take time to cook all the food so if you have to eat fast don't go there ! But if you have time, I recommend !

Given that it was our last day on Mljet, we wanted to finish with good food accompanied by a pleasant ambience. In Konoba Ankora we got it all - from the first greeting to the farewell. The waiter created a welcoming, homely atmosphere with his first approach. When he asked if everything was okay, firstly over drinks and then over food, he made it clear that customers are valued here. I highly recommend a visit, especially their octopus. The food is delicious and local!

Very friendly and welcoming service from Renato at his family restaurant with mom in the kitchen. Very well prepared meal with really excellent black risotto. Nice view on the bay and 3 buoys for visiting yachts. Prices are as usual in the area.
